About the maker
This particular style of furniture which included chairs, tables and benches were named after the town they were made in during the 19th century - Arras in northern France. Before the age of modern welding, each piece was made by a traditional blacksmith using the tried and tested method of forge welding and hand riveting. Pieces were made using semi-tubular lengths of wrought iron and contoured perfectly to fit the human form. The resulting pieces of furniture were incredibly comfortable and their overall design very distinctive and now rather sought after! The earlier pieces had a lions paw foot on each leg, with later pieces adopting a simpler hoof foot.
