About the maker
Howard & Sons were a prestigious furniture maker, formed in Lemon Street, London in 1820 where they initially traded as a Cabinet Maker. They later went on to design and produce iconic pieces of furniture out of several London addresses, usually stamping their work with the address - making this an identification of the age of the piece. They were made famous for their impeccably designed and incredibly comfortable sofas and armchairs. Howard and Sons would make identification easier by marking their work. Upholstered furniture would have either a name and/or number stamp on the inside of the back foot, a paper label on the hessian or a name stamp on the castor cup or wheel. Original pieces are incredibly sought after and becoming harder and harder to come by.
